Either the last 2 posts were of really bad quality.. or ..I’ve managed to drive away the one or two faithful readers that I had.. IF its the first.. I sincerely apologize.. If its the second.. Gawd save me! Enough of waste talk you say?? Ok!

Lets get down to some serious business shall we? At the rate that I am saving up drafts, the number of drafts is soon going to over take the number of published posts.. All half baked.. lost steam mid way types. Here’s hoping I get my groove back and publish them all left, right and center!

Some books are to be tasted, others swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested

Here’s my analogy to songs:

• Some songs are to be thrashed without a second thought.
• Some songs are to be heard..
• Some songs are to be enjoyed by hearing them over and over again until you feel that you’ve gotten enough of it.
• There are some other songs which have to be played over and over and over again. You just cant seem to get enough of them and the words are etched into your memory forever!

IMHO most songs start out in the last category and end up in the second a few days later.While we hope away to glory, here’s a quick update on a couple of songs that caught my imagination and managed to keep me hooked on to them. I’ve been looping these over and over for quite sometime now.

The first song is Nenani neevani from Kotha Bangaru Lokam.

The telugu folks might know about it already. I don’t understand a word of the lyrics, but the tune is so damn good. Swetha Pandit is the voice and she does an amazing job at it.. Magical Mickey J Meyer has set it to tune. It starts in an innocuous way.. A light jingle and then the honey soaked voice.. Its only when she sings…

Reppa Venakalaa.. Swapnam…
Ippudu Edhurayye Sathyam …Thelisthee….
Addukogaladaa Vegam…
Kotha Bangaru Lokam… Pilsthee..

that you stop whatever you are doing and take notice of the song. A very very heart warming number. If it doesn’t catch your attention first up listen to it once more. It definitely will drive you crazy! At the end of the first stanza comes the line.. “Idi Nee… Maa….yee…. Naa.. ” Watch out! You might melt! And then if you manage to recover.. watch out for the end of the second stanza as well.. She goes.. “Venu ven..tee… Raa…naa” !
Sigh how I wish I understood what this song meant and I can appreciate it better !

Next up another Telugu song.. Tanemandho from a movie called Ganesh Just Ganesh.

Again MJM is the man behind it. Sung by our Thalaivar’s find Javed Ali [ Remeber Jashn E Bahara?? ].. This song is just what you need to hear right after Nenani! Peppered with slightly fast paced interludes, this is another beautiful song! If you don’t hum “Thanemando ando ledo teleledey nijamga” later.. let me know! I cant pick up exactly one line out of this song.. cos almost all lines are cutely sung!

Are we missing out on out usual couple of usual Hindi songs. Less tension The first from Main Aur Mrs.Khanna and no its not Dont Say Alvida..

[Somehow I am beginning to think Sonu Nigam is putting over ah vetti scene since Kal Ho Na Ho] This is a song called “Tum Ne Socha“. Its been doing the rounds on the promos only recently so chances are that you’ve not heard it on TV yet.. It starts with a rather familiar chrous. Sung by Wajid and Shreya Ghoshal it has a peppy tune.. Whats keeps us hooked is the way its sung, the overlapping yet great lyrics and the singers [ Wajid does sound a wee bit like Neeraj Sridhar].

I fell for these first few lines .. Haven’t gotten over yet and don’t think I ever will either!

Have you watched Wake Up Sid yet? Chances are you are already mad about this song. But I haven’t and even after I watch the song I am going to be mad about this song. The promos don’t quite do justice to it.

Hear this when you are looking for inspiration.. heck when ever you feel like.. Like a friend said, the way this songs begins, has an “earthen” feel to it.. After the first few lines.. there is a shift in gears and these lines happen…

The way Amitabh sings the first “Naino Ko Mund Mund” makes your heart skip a beat and after that its never in place at all. Armed with the simplest guitar and drum beats, this song just makes you float around in a trance. Man…  the feel, the correctly places emphasis’ and pauses… the beats.. These 4 lines are the heart , soul and everything of the song. Hardly 4 mins long this is the best song I’ve heard in a while. Just go hear it will ya?

Oh by the way do you still want me to spell it out explicitly that the aforementioned lines are yours truly’s caller tune?

Time for tamil folks! Have you gotten past “Maalai Neram” yet? If not continue.. its gonna take another age for a song like that to come up. However there are some chota chota songs giving stiff competition to it. James Vasanthan seems to have scored a hat trick. Yes. In his first 2 movies he had one song which stood out from the rest of them all and made zombies out of us folks. Yaathumaagi his 3rd venture has more than just one such song. You do get a whiff  of his previous outings..  yet you can overlook that as these songs stand on their own.

Pesum minsaram sung by Benny Dayal!

A pleasant and soothing song.. Starts off slowly.. hits a high note.. goes on a canter for sometime.. a high note and then a canter again  and then goes into the beautiful part of the song!

Paadum minmini neeya….
Yaavum neeya….
Uyirin aadharam neeya…

Netru munnadi vandhaai…
Nenjai kannadi seidhaai..
Binbam thanthaai…
Ennaye velgiraai ..

The pattern repeats for the rest of the song .. The charanams are similar sounding too. You get into the groove and look forward to the “Pesum Minsaaram” bit each time.. But all in all definitely lovable and hummable!

The other song from this movie which stands out is “Thigatta thigatta” sung by the same lady who crooned “Kangal Irundal”– Deepa Miriam.

Another melodious and nice to hear song. However it manages to hold fort against the other songs. Cutsey lyrics, decenty set to tune and a voice to melt for, conspire against you and you have no choice but to fall for it! Enjoyy!!! I somehow like this one over the others..
