All I wanna say is…

.. I’m gonna keep reading.. :)

Lately I’ve been on a reading spree. As you might have gathered from this post, I’ve read 2 extremely good books in the last couple of weeks. And I didn’t stop with just writing about them in my blog. We have a Book Club in my workplace. I gave a presentation of sorts on these 2 books there as well.

That wasn’t just enough. I wanted to read more and more. And couldn’t make a trip to the library. A visit to Landmark only added fuel to the raging fire. One look at some very good books made me want to read all the more. Really, I wanted to drag a stool and sit there all day and read, read and read.
What better way to read than to read up the dozens of blogs out here in blogosphere. I blog hopped and hopped and hopped. I dug up blogs from left, right and center and devoured them with glee. I happened to discover some very good blogs, bookmarked them, beautiful writers, some awesome posts.. Aahh.. Ecstasy… And in instances where I gathered enough courage, I even commented on a few posts. Alas. I’ve been a lurker. Ok, stop glaring please. I know its totally not nice. I’m trying hard to quit. Really. So rest assured.

I’ve always been a bookworm reading up anything and everything I can lay my hands on. But despite that I’ve been choosy as well. No matter how starved I am for books, a non fiction book has to try real hard to catch my attention and actually make me read it. But blogs are different. In a short span of time I’ve managed to read up on varied topics. Funny, boring, controversial .. I’ve read them all.. And I know that there’s lots I’ve missed as well..

I don’t know if its a bad habit, but once I start reading something and it interests me, I sorta become obssessed with it. I’ve got to finish reading it before putting it down. If its a book, no matter what the time or urgency, I just can’t put it down until there’s a dull moment. And for books like “Harry Potter” thats pretty hard. For blogs, again its a different approach. If I dig up a blog and if I like the way its written, I’ve gotta read up all the posts written in there. No matter how long the blogger had been blogging or no matter how many posts. I just gotta read them all. People tell me, do you feel that way as well??

Sometimes, I’m so awed by some posts that I think, “Just where do these people learn to write? Why can’t I write even half as good?? ” I console myself saying.. “Someday.. Someday.. Hum honge kaamyaab” :P When I wondered this aloud, someone reminded me “Chithiramum kai pazhakam” [Roughly translates to the more you practice the better you are. ] I took it seriously a bit late, but better late than never. Right?? I’m digressing now.

And by the way, my friend has given me two books to read. So am all set to plunge headlong into them. :) So off I go now .. But will definitely be back with more mokkais.

Oh I promised meaningful posts in my last post eh?? Erm… Hmmm… Next time. :D I have a tag to complete so that I hope will be more meaningful than this rant. :P

Reading and writing are like wildfires. Once you get hooked on one or both, it’s just hard to stop. The same thing also happens to me.

  • Hi Aparna,

I second your feeling. If I find something interesting, be it a big book or lengthy essay or numerous archived posts, I would prefer to finish them at the earliest if not in one sitting.

Reading compliments a Writer in a very positive and at times in a more inspiring way.

Do let me know about those interesting finds as you discover them and I would be glad to introduce you to my daily reads :)

have a nice day Aparna, take care… Cheers…

    Hi aparna :)

Came here from “Uniquely Priya” :) Landmark – Man ! I cant come out of that place ! Its so very magnetic. Everytime I get into a landmark store i ensure that i stay there for 2 hours, minimum :)

What books are you devouring by the way ?

    @nithya
welcome here.. :) totally agree with you. Landmark is ADDICTIVE. I try to spend as much time there as possible. half hour for each section and atleast an hour with the books. When I leave I look back with a sad face. :(
And right now I’m reading “3 mistakes of my life” by chetan bhagat. In the pipeline is “The Tambram Brid” by Kausalya Saptharishi. So 2 books, if you don’t count the Archies and Calvin :)
