Despite the audio of “Bheema” being released quite sometime back, I heard the songs very recently only. No, this is not a review of the album. Just that this one song appealed to me a lot. This is sung by Madhushree and Hariharan (??!!!??) and of course set to tune by Harris Jayaraj.
Its a soothing and soft number with beautiful words and a catchy jingle. The male voice in this song is very unlike the usual Hariharan. He’s very subdued and definitely is not in his element. Or is it that we are so used to expect Hariharan’s usual voice and modulations that this rendition by him takes us by surprise.
Madhusree grits and gnashes every single word she can. I don’t understand why people think its nice to hear when someone albeit singing so melodiously kills the language and murders the beauty of the lyrics.
The jingle most definitely has to be mentioned. It blows girlish-ness and a nursery rhyme kind of feel into the song but still doesn’t take away one bit from it as the most romantic song of the album.
It goes like this:
Irage irage mayil irage..
Vanna mayil irage..
Vandhu thodu azhage..
Thoda thoda pozhigira sugam sugame..
Kan pada pada pudhirgalum avizhindhidume.
The tune of this jingle somehow reminds me of a devotional song on Goddess Ambal. Correct me if I’m wrong. But I love it everytime it comes in the song.
And in the charanams the lyrics are so beautiful that it tugs at your heart if you are not in love.. Words like
Illadha varthaikkum puriginda atham ne..
Solladha idam engum sudugindra mutham ne..
Sudum thanimayai unargira mara nizhal pola … Ennai suzha..
Uyir anu muzhuvadhu unai pesa
Nenachale sevappagum marudhaani thottam nee..
Aaha aaha kavithai kavithai…. The whole song is beautiful. I’m mentioning these lines because they appeal the most to me.
Now don’t give me the look which says ” Oru pattukke ivvalo build up ah??“. Slighta I’m prone to long posts.
PS: Recently HJ has been using a lot of jingles in his songs. What Mr. HJ trying to be ARR?? You can never reach there sir. Sorry!
